UCSD's McInnes and Brooker Joined by LBSU's Chacon and Lang of Hawai'i for Weekly Honors

Offensive Player of the Week 
Ava McInnes | Junior • Outside Hitter • Tustin, Calif.
  • 8138After pacing the Tritons to a trio of wins, UC San Diego's Ava McInnes picked up TSU/Belmont Invitational Most Valuable Player en route to Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors. The award is a second career nod, also earning distinction on Oct. 17, 2022. 

  • McInnes averaged 4.92 kills and 5.63 points per set through 12 sets played as UCSD defeated Tennessee State, Jackson State and Belmont to run their non-conference record to 8-4. 

  • In Thursday's four-set victory at Tennessee State, McInnes recorded a season-high 24 kills on .354 hitting and 27.5 points to go along with 11 digs for the double-double. 

  • The junior outside hitter tallied team bests in kills (13) and blocks (5) in the sweep of Jackson State and kills (22) in the five-setter against Belmont. 

  • McInnes has now reached double-figure kills in 15 straight matches, dating back to Extended a 15-match streak of double-figure kills dating back to Nov. 10, 2022. 

  • The Tustin, Calif, native currently leads The Big West in kills per set (4.08) and is now 21 away from the 1,000 career-kill mark as the team heads into conference play this Friday.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Savana Chacon, Long Beach State | Junior • Libero • Crown Point, Ind.
  • 8042Savana Chacon anchored the Long Beach State defense while averaging 5.00 digs per set at the Wildcat Classic, helping the Beach to a trio of wins to secure a first-career Big West weekly honor as Defensive Player of the Week.  

  • The junior libero recorded double-digit digs in each match, registering 19 in a sweep of host Arizona, 12 in the three-set win against Alabama State, and 19 against New Mexico State. Chacon has now recorded 10 or more digs in nine of 10 matches played in 2023. 

  • Chacon finished the week averaging 1.40 assists per set and served up four aces. The stout defense helped LBSU hold their opponents to a .151 attack average as the Beach hit .249 and went 3-0.

Setter of the Week 
Kate Lang, Hawai'i | Junior • Setter • Keller, Texas
  • 8036Reigning Big West Setter of the Year Kate Lang continues to dish with ease for Hawai'i, collecting a fifth-straight and seventh-career Setter of the Week award.  

  • The Keller, Texas, native returned close to home to compete in the Fight for the Fort hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, and averaged an impressive 13.40 assists per set with 25 digs and six blocks for the Rainbow Wahine.

  • Against host TCU, Lang dished out a match-high 49 assists, scooped up eight digs and was in on two blocks. In UH's sweep over Western Carolina, the junior issued 40 assists as the Rainbow Wahine offense hit a season-best percentage of .345 (50-10-116) with a team season-low with 10 hitting errors. 

  • In the non-conference and tourney finale vs. Florida State Lang notched her posted a fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 45 assists and 10 digs.  

  • Lang is leading The Big West and rates 11th nationally averaging 10.98 assists per set on the season.

Freshman of the Week 
Lauren Brooker, UC San Diego | Freshman • Setter/Outside Hitter • Calabasas, Calif.
  • 8138UC San Diego first-year player Lauren Brooker secured a second career nod as Big West Freshman of the Week after an all-tournament weekend at the TSU/Belmont Invitational. Brooker also claimed honors on Aug. 29 after an impressive debut weekend for the Tritons. 

  • Brooker finished the Invitational averaging 2.00 kills, 1.67 assists and 1.75 digs per set while finishing third on the team with 28.5 total points as UCSD downed Tennessee State, Jackson State and Belmont in Nashville.  

  • The Calabasas, Calif., native recorded a double-double of 10 assists and 10 digs to open the weekend against Tennessee State against TSU with 10 assists and 10 digs. It was Brooker's fourth assists-digs double-double of the year. 

  • Brooker closed out the weekend just shy of a triple double in the five-set victory against Belmont. The setter/opposite hitter had nine kills, nine assists and nine digs in the match.
