UC Irvine redshirt sophomore attacker Samuel Otta recorded 14 points on 63% shooting this weekend in three contests leading the Anteater to a 2-1 record, to win The Big West Men's Water Polo Player of the Week Award. Otta is a first-time Big West weekly honoree.

The attacker put up two tallies, five assists, and five steals in a stellar 21-2 UC Irvine win over Whittier College. Otta followed up the impressive showing by scoring four goals and notched four steals as the 'Eaters downed Redlands, 14-9 to round out the competition at the Inland Empire Classic. During UC Irvine's home opener against No. 2 USC, the Fresno native compiled two assists and a single score while the Trojans edged the 'Eaters, 12-10.
- Through seven games this season, Otta paces the Anteaters with a team and career-high 17 goals. Otta has also set career-best in assists (11) and places second on UC Irvine in the respective category. The Anteaters are 4-3 to start the 2023 campaign.
