UC Davis Sweeps First Iteration of Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week 
Cason Goodman, UC Davis | Sophomore • Forward • Santa Barbara, Calif. 
  • 8137UC Davis sophomore forward Cason Goodman scored two goals, one in each match of the opening weekend, to help the Aggies to a 2-0 record at the Wolstein Classic against Dayton and Ohio State to start the 2023 season.

  • In the 32nd minute against Dayton, the sophomore forward found the back of the net for the first goal of the game and season, and eventually proved to be the game-winner. The Aggies prevailed over the Flyers by a final score of 2-0. 

  • The Santa Barbara, Calif. product scored the second game-winning goal of the weekend against Ohio State. With the score tied 1-1, Goodman ran down a long ball from UC Davis goalie Charles Janssen and put it away to give the Aggies the lead. 
  • With two game-winning goals, Goodman was named to the Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Charles Janssen, UC Davis | Redshirt Junior • Goalkeeper • Sebastopol, Calif. 
  • 8137UC Davis redshirt junior goalkeeper Charles Janssen compiled 10 saves and even an assist as UC Davis opened the season with a 2-0 record at the Wolstein Classic against Dayton and Ohio State. 

  • In the season opener against Dayton, the Sebastopol, Calif. native made three saves and led the Aggies to a 2-0 shutout of the Flyers. 

  • Janssen made seven stops and assisted Cason Goodman on the game-winning goal with a long-range goal kick in the 2-1 victory over Ohio State. 
  • After aiding UC Davis to a 2-0 week including a shutout, Janssen was named to the Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team. 

  • This mark's Janssen's second weekly defensive honor, having won it once last season (Oct. 10). 
  • Also Nominated: Luke Pruter (UC Irvine); 

Freshman of the Week 
Tristan Wouters, UC Davis | Freshman • Midfielder • Templeton, Calif. 
  • 8137Tristan Wouters scored a goal in UC Davis' 2-1 win over Ohio State to help the Aggies to a 2-0 record to start the season.

  • After UC Davis conceded an Ohio State score in the second minute, the rookie midfielder responded and got a goal in the fifth minuute to equalize the game. It was Wouters' first collegiate goal. 

  • The Templeton, Calif. product played 32 minutes in the opener against Dayton to total 86 minutes on the opening weekend.
