Softball Pitcher of the Week
Senior • Pitcher • Gilbert, Ariz. |
• Myka Sutherlin fired back-to-back complete-game seven-inning shutouts among three appearances (two starts) at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City this past Thursday through Saturday, garnering a fifth career Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week award and second already for 2023.
• The senior and second-year Pacific transfer went 2-0 while posting a stellar 0.45 ERA over 15.2 innings pitched as reigning Big West champion and preseason favorite Cal State Fullerton went 3-2, including wins over No. 22 Oregon (5-0), Oregon State (4-0) and No. 3 Florida (5-4), and a loss to No. 2 Oklahoma.
• The right-hander from Gilbert, Ariz., tossed the shutouts against the Ducks and their Pac-12 rival Beavers. Sutherlin gave up just three hits to Oregon and two to OSU, striking out 12 for the weekend and allowing only one earned run (three total), two walks and one home run. Opponents were able to muster a .148 batting average.
• Sutherlin was this year's first Big West Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 13, with three previous awards all coming last season on Feb. 28, March 21 and March 28.

• Hailing from Diamond Bar, Becerra blasted three home runs on the weekend and had five runs and seven RBI. The third baseman produced a pair of two-run long balls against the Gators Saturday, the latter of the walk-off variety in the eighth to give the Titans a huge 5-4 triumph.

Softball Freshman of the Week
Freshman • Pitcher • Adelaide, Australia |

• Hawai’i newcomer Millie Fidge made a second collegiate start a memorable one on Saturday night, firing a complete game in an 8-2 home win over Marist during the Bank of Hawai’i Invitational to earn a first Big West Freshman of the Week nod.
• The Australian allowed two runs on six hits (one a double) and three walks while striking out a season-high seven over a season-long seven frames. Fidge needed 113 pitches to grab a first collegiate winning decision, moving to 1-1 on the year.
• With the bases full, nobody out and one run already in via walk in the fourth with UH clinging to just a 2-1 edge, Fidge got a called third strike, a lineout to the shortstop and a swinging strikeout to limit the damage. UH then struck for three in both the fifth and sixth innings.
• Fidge is the second straight Rainbow Wahine recipient of the Big West Freshman of the Week award, following teammate Key-annah Campbell-Pua from Feb. 20. Hawai’i finished the tournament an even 2-2, and is now 9-6 on the year.
