- Freshman Sumayah Sugapong had back-to-back career games for UC San Diego at the USD Winter Classic en route to Big West Player of the Week for Dec. 25.
- The San Diego native collected a career-high 22 points against Boise State on Wednesday in a 62-56 victory at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Sugapong was 7-for-16 (.440) from the floor with four rebounds, four assists a steal and a block in the all-around effort.
- On Thursday against Montana, Sugapong went off for a new career benchmark with a 25-point performance in a last-second loss to the Grizz, again adding four assists for the Tritons.
- For the week, Sugapong shot 40 percent from the field and went 13-of-17 from the free throw line, averaging 23.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the final non-conference tuneups of the season.
- UC San Diego and the rest of The Big West open league play on Dec. 28. The Tritons are at Cal State Bakersfield at 7 p.m. to tip off conference action. Watch all Big West contests on ESPN+.
