Long Beach State's Tsohonis Claims Second Player of the Week Honor This Season

  • 22178Long Beach State guard Marcus Tsohonis averaged 19.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two victories to earn The Big West Player of the Week award. It is Tsohonis' third career weekly honor from the conference, having won it once earlier this season (Nov. 20) and once last season (Jan. 23). 

  • The senior shot a combined 48 percent (12-of-25) from the floor and 44.0 percent (4-of-9) from behind the arc in the two wins.  

  • Tsohonis scored a game-high 28 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor, 3-of-6 from behind the arc and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe, in a thrilling 84-79 overtime triumph at USC. Two of the points came to tie the score with a few seconds in regulation and send the game to overtime. It was the Beach's first win against the Trojans since 1987. 

  • The Portland, Ore. product started the week with an 11-point effort in a 88-66 home win, Wednesday night against Life Pacific. 

  • Long Beach State is 7-4 on the season. Tsohonis is currently averaging 18.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
