Offensive Player of the Week  Amber Igiede | Senior • Middle Blocker • Baton Rouge, La.

• Amber Igiede finished the regular season with a flourish for Hawai’i to take home the final Big West Offensive Player of the Week award for 2023, the fifth of the season for the senior and eighth-career offensive honor.  

• The Rainbow Wahine swept through UC San Diego and downed Long Beach State in four behind Igiede’s 5.00 kills per set on .459 hitting and six blocks on the week.  

• Against the Tritons, the Baton Rouge, La., native hit .500 with 14 kills on 24 attacks with two errors. Igiede also dealt a team-leading 23rd ace of the season in the match.  

• On UH’s Senior Night on Saturday, Igiede carried the team to victory after a rough start to the match. Trailing by 10 at 18-8 in the first frame, Igiede powered down a season-high 21 kills on .432 hitting with 37 swings in the match. Igiede was in on a team-high four blocks with three digs and the Rainbow Wahine climbed to the No. 2 seed in The Big West Championship bracket with the pair of victorious efforts. 

• UH now awaits the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed match, where Long Beach State takes on UC Irvine in Wednesday’s opening round from Walter Pyramid.

Defensive Player of the Week  Jolei Akima, Cal Poly | Redshirt Junior • Libero • Kahalu'u, Hawai'i

• Cal Poly libero Jolei Akima averaged 5.25 digs per set in the final regular-season weekend for the Mustang to claim a second career Big West Defensive Player of the Week honor. 

• In Friday’s sweep of UC Riverside, Akima recorded 15 digs and three service aces. 

• Saturday, Akima followed it up with a career-high 27-dig performance in a five-set win over UC Davis as the Mustangs secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 2023 Outrigger Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship.  

• Akima enters the postseason averaging 4.19 digs per set, second in The Big West.

Setter of the Week  Kate Lang, Hawai'i | Junior • Setter • Keller, Texas

• Junior Kate Lang capped the regular season with another impressive week guiding the Hawai’i offense to earn an impressive eighth Setter of the Week award in 2023, the 11th since the award began in 2022.  

• Lang averaged 11.29 assists and 2.86 digs per set as the Rainbow Wahine dispatched UC San Diego and Long Beach State to claim the second seed in this week’s 2023 Outrigger Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship. 

• Against the Tritons, the senior had the offense humming, hitting .313. Lang posted a team-leading 12th double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs in the sweep, also adding a kill and a block.  

• In UH’s final regular-season game, she tied a season-high with 50 assists to go along with nine digs and two blocks in a 3-1 victory over rival Long Beach State to secure a first-round bye. 

• All told, Lang closed the regular season averaging 10.48 assists per set, good for 27th nationally, with 1,090 helpers on the year.

Freshman of the Week  Emma Fredrick, Cal Poly| Freshman • Outside Hitter • Bakersfield, Calif.

• Cal Poly freshman Emma Fredrick posted the best weekend as a collegian to claim the season’s final Big West Freshman of the Week award. 

• The outside hitter averaged 3.50 kills per set on .343 hitting in wins over UC Riverside and UC Davis to wrap up the regular season. 

• The Bakersfield, Calif., native powered down 11 kills in Friday’s sweep of the Highlanders before knocking down a season-best 17 in the five-set victory over the Aggies on Saturday.  

• With the pair of victories on the weekend, Fredrick and the Mustangs earned the No. 3 seed in the 2023 Outrigger Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship. The first round will see a rematch of the regular-season finale, as Cal Poly and UC Davis tussle on Friday at 7 p.m. from Walter Pyramid.
