Tommi Stockham led the Cal Poly offense in four-set victories over UC San Diego and Long Beach State to pick up Big West Offensive Player of the Week distinction. The award is a third in the 2023 campaign, and sixth career nod.

Stockham averaged 5.00 kills and 1.5 digs per set through the two pivotal weekend matchups. In the win over the Tritons, the redshirt junior led the team with 23 kills in addition to four service aces.

The outside hitter then paced the Mustangs with 17 kills in a four-set win over Long Beach State on Saturday. Stockham has now recorded double digit kills in each of the last six matches.

The pair of wins moved Cal Poly into a three-way tie for second in The Big West standings with two matches remaining in the regular season. The Mustangs will be playing for positioning in the 2023 Outrigger Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship this week with matches against UC Riverside and UC Davis to close the conference slate.

Defensive Player of the Week

UC Santa Barbara libero Macall Peed continues to be the backbone of the Gauchos' defense, earning a fourth career Big West Defensive Player of the Week award, the second of the 2023 season.

Peed averaged 5.44 digs per set on the week, scooping up 17 balls while adding seven assists and two aces in a four-set win against Long Beach State on Friday.

The senior tied a career-high of 32 digs in a five-set win over UC San Diego on Saturday. Peed is currently averaging a Big West-best 4.70 digs per set, good for 37th in NCAA Division I.

The pair of victories clinched UCSB’s regular-season championship with a league record of 15-1 with two matches to play and the No. 1 seed in the inaugural Big West Championship, set for Nov. 22-25 in Long Beach, Calif.

Hawai’i junior Kate Lang turned in another impressive week on the mainland directing the Rainbow Wahine offense to claim Big West Setter of the Week for the seventh time this season. The award is the 10th career weekly setting award from the conference.

Lang averaged 11.29 assists, 3.00 digs and 1.00 blocks per set in road wins against UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton.

In UH's sweep at UCI, Lang was in on a career-high six blocks. Lang issued 39 assists with no errors in 76 attempts for a .513 set percentage while coming up with eight digs. For the 10th time this season, the ‘Bows hit over .300, with a .363 hitting percentage in the match.

In Saturday’s win against the Titans, Lang recorded a team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 40 assists and 13 digs in the four-set affair.

Lang has now compiled 3,014 assists over three seasons, becoming just the 10th Rainbow Wahine in program history to past the 3,000-assist mark.

Tali Hakas started both road wins for Hawai’i coming up with a Big West Freshman of the Week honors in the process.

The true freshman tied a career high, putting down 11 kills in consecutive wins at UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton.

In the sweep of the Anteaters, Hakas was in on a career-high six blocks while hitting .348 with seven digs to compile a career-high 14.0 points. Hakas also added seven digs for a career-high 14.0 points.

At Cal State Fullerton, Hakas’ 11 kills were paired with eight digs and two aces, as UH came away with the 3-1 win.

Hakas and the ‘Bows close the regular season at home, hosting UC San Diego and Long Beach State in the final matches before heading to the mainland for postseason play. UH and LBSU are currently two of the three squads tied for second in the league standings, along with Cal Poly.
