UC Irvine's Montanile, Sacramento State's Guerra and Cal Poly's Torres Collect Final Player of the Week Awards

Offensive Player of the Week 
Francesco Montanile, UC Irvine | Junior • Forward • Phoenix Ariz. 
  • 8136UC Irvine's Francesco Montanile recorded two assists in a 3-1 win against UC San Diego to claim the Offensive Player of the Week award. 

  • On Saturday, the junior set up the first two goals to put the Anteaters up by two. 

  • Montanile now has a team-leading four assists on the season.  

  • With the win, UC Irvine improved to 8-6-3 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play to finish the regular season. The Anteaters earned the No. 2 seed and will host the semifinal-round of The Big West Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday, Nov. 4 against the winner of UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Edgar Guerra, Sacramento State | Sophomore • Goalkeeper • Santa Rosa, Calif.
  • 8388Sacramento State's Edgar Guerra helped the Hornets end their regular season on a high note with a 1-0 win over local rival UC Davis. 

  • Filling in for starter Mac Learned, Guerra recorded a career-high 10 saves, including seven stops in the first half, for the shutout and the victory. It was the third shutout of Guerra's career. 

  • It was Sacramento State's first win since Sept. 5.  

  • Also Nominated: Carlos Gonzalez (UC Riverside), Ricardo Ibarra (UC Irvine), Tetsuya Kadono (Cal State Fullerton);

Freshman of the Week 
Joaquin Torres, Cal Poly | Freshman • Defender • Denver, Colo.
  • 8038Cal Poly freshman Joaquin Torres scored a goal in a 1-1 draw at Cal State Bakersfield to earn Freshman of the Week honors. 

  • It was the rookie's first career goal in a game that secured the Mustangs' tickets into The Big West Championship. 

  • Cal Poly concluded the regular season at 5-7-4 overall and 3-3-3 in conference play. The Mustangs earned the No. 5 seed in The Big West Championship and will travel to No. 4 seed UC Davis on Wednesday, Nov. 1 for the first round.
