Three First-Time Winners Highlight The Big West Women's Volleyball Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week 
Tasia Farmer, UC Santa Barbara | Senior • Opposite Hitter • Highland, Utah
  • 8134Senior Tasia Farmer had a weekend to remember for UC Santa Barbara as the Gauchos took down Cal Poly and Hawai’i to continue unscathed through Big West play at 8-0. Farmer was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week for the efforts, a first career nod.  

  • The senior opposite hit .517 on the weekend while averaging 4.25 kills per set while totaling 36.5 points through eight sets played.  

  • The product of Highland, Utah, contributed a career-high 18 kills against Cal Poly while hitting .667 (18-2-24) to go along with four digs and two blocks in the sweep of the Mustangs.  

  • Friday, Farmer added 16 more kills in a five-set thriller against the Rainbow Wahineto cap the weekend as UCSB continues to hold serve in The Big West standings under the direction of first-year head coach Matt Jones.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Kameron Bacon, Long Beach State | Junior • Middle Blocker • Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
  • 8042Kameron Bacon averaged 2.00 blocks per set for Long Beach State to lead the Beach defense on the front line to pick up a first career Big West Defensive Player of the Week award. 

  • Bacon and the Beach averaged 3.17 blocks per set while holding their opponents to an .043 attack percentage in sweeps over UC Davis and UC Riverside.  

  • The junior middle blocker contributed on both sides of the ball adding 2.50 kills per set on a .444 hitting percentage.  

  • Against UC Davis, Bacon tallied nine kills on a .643  attack percentage (9-0-14), while putting up five blocks. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native posted six kills and seven blocks – including one solo – in Saturday’s sweep of the Highlanders. 

  • Bacon is second in The Big West in blocking average on the season, denying 1.20 attempts per set with 73 total blocks. 

  • The Beach are currently sitting in a tie for second place in The Big West standings with a league record of 6-2 as we near the midpoint of the 18-game conference schedule.

Setter of the Week 
Zayna Meyer, Long Beach State | Redshirt Sophomore • Setter • Wheaton, Ill.
  • Zayna Meyer piloted Long Beach State to a .393 team attack percentage as the Beach swept both UC Davis and UC Riverside en route to Big West Setter of the Week honors. This is a sixth career weekly setter award for Meyer, and the second of the 2023 campaign (Oct. 2). 

  • In addition to averaging 10.50 assists per set, Meyer also contributed 2.33 digs per set, 2.17 kills per set, 0.83 blocks per set, and hit an incredible .722 (13-0-18) on the weekend.  

  • The Wheaton, Ill., product started the week against UC Davis with seven kills on 10 errorless swings for a .700 clip, to go along with 35 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.  

  • The next night against the Highlanders, the redshirt sophomore added six kills on eight errorless attempts to hit .750, while also posting 28 assists, four digs, and three blocks.   

  • All told on the season, Meyer is averaging 10.03 assists per set, second in The Big West.

Freshman of the Week 
Emma Napoleon, UC Irvine | Redshirt Freshman • Outside Hitter • Los Angeles, Calif.
  • 8136UC Irvine’s Emma Napoleon led the Anteaters to a pair of sweeping wins last week, resulting in a first-career Big West Freshman of the Week award. 

  • Napoleon started the week tying a career high with eight kills versus Cal State Bakersfield on Friday. The outside hitter then had a match-best and new career-high 13 kills in a first career start against CSUN on Saturday.  

  • The redshirt freshman from Los Angeles also posted a career-best three block assists and a dig against the Matadors.  

  • All told for the week, Napoleon averaged 3.50 kills,per set while hitting .304 with 22.5 total points as UCI moved up to sixth in The Big West standings. New in 2023, the top six teams at the conclusion of the regular season will compete at the 2023 Big West Women’s Volleyball Championship for an opportunity to earn a berth in the NCAA Championship.
