Hunter Hernandez of League-Leading UC Irvine Claims Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week

  • Sophomore Hunter Hernandez continued to lead UC Irvine to a perfect 7-0 start to Big West play, collecting Big West Player of the Week honors in the process.  

  • In one of the toughest road stretches of the season, Hernandez averaged a team-best 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in wins at second-place UC Santa Barbara and defending champion Hawai'i.  

  • Against the Gauchos, the San Jose native registered 14 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two steals in a rare Monday matchup.  

  • Following the long trip to UH, and an early injury to key starter Olivia Williams, Hernandez stepped up with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to lift the Anteaters to the overtime victory on Thursday.  

  • Through seven Big West contests, Hernandez is averaging 12.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals for the first-place Anteaters.
