UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i Players Nab Big West Women's Volleyball Weekly Awards

  • Tallulah Froley put up career-high tying numbers in a pair of five-set victories for UC Santa Barbara to claim Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors.  

  • Playing from the right side for the Gauchos, Froley tied her career high twice with 18 kills in back-to-back matches. Froley finished with weekend averaging 3.60 kills per set on .360 hitting with 38.5 total points. 

  • In Friday’s five setter at UC San Diego, the senior was an efficient .455 (18-3-33) while adding three blocks and posting a match-best 18 kills.  

  • Saturday’s 18-kill performance came in a reverse sweep at UC Irvine, as the Gauchos handed the Anteaters their first home loss of the season.   

  • This is Froley’s second career weekly offensive award, with the first coming Oct. 21, 2019.

  • Macall Peed was dynamic defensively in a pair of road victories for UC Santa Barbara to claim her second career Big West Defensive Player of the Week award.  

  • The junior averaged 4.90 digs per set on the weekend and was perfect as a passer posting a 1.000 serve reception percentage on 47 attempts as the Gauchos earned five-set wins at UC Sant Diego and UC Irvine.  

  • In Friday's Big West opener, the libero recorded a career-high 30 digs and added an ace and five assists.  

  • Saturday, Peed led the Gauchos to a reverse sweep over UC Irvine with 19 more digs to go along with two aces and three assists as the Anteaters were limited to .170 hitting.

  • Sophomore setter Kate Lang orchestrated the Hawai’i offense to a .356 hitting percentage in a pair of sweeps against UC Davis and UC Riverside to pick up Big West Setter of the Week acclaim. This is Lang’s third career weekly conference honor, after twice being named Freshman of the Week in 2021.  

  • Lang dished out a match-high 36 assists to go along with seven digs, a block, a kill and an ace against the Aggies to open the weekend.  

  • The sophomore from Keller, Texas, added 39 assists against UC Riverside and had Hawai’i reaching a season-high .414 hitting percentage. The mark is the best match hitting percentage since Sept. 29, 2017 (.494 vs. Cal State Fullerton). 

  • Lang averaged 12.5 assists per set in the two matches and is currently leading The Big West with 9.57 assists per set this season.

Women's Volleyball Freshman of the Week

  • Rookie Caylen Alexander helped Hawai’i to a pair of sweeping victories to open Big West play to earn her second Big West Freshman of the Week award of the season. 

  • The outside hitter caught fire against UC Riverside, pounding a match-high 15 kills with no errors in 27 attacks for a career-high .556 hitting percentage to lead the Rainbow Wahine in the sweep 

  • Alexander pummeled seven kills in the third set alone--including five in a span of seven points in the middle of the frame 

  • Overall on the weekend, the native of Alpharetta, Ga., put down 23 kills, averaging 3.83 kills per set with a .375 hitting percentage in six frames of play and also recorded a career-best four blocks in the win over UC Davis.   

  • Alexander also recorded a service ace in each match and now has at least one ace in nine of Hawai’i's 10 matches played.
