Morgan Chacon made the most of her Long Beach State debut, leading the Beach to a 2-1 season-opening weekend to claim Big West Offensive Player of the Week.

The Florida State transfer averaged 4.21 kills per set, 2.21 digs per set, 4.71 points per set, and hit .259. Chacon recorded a doubles-doubles in Long Beach State's wins over Oregon State and Portland State with 17 kills and 10 digs, and 16 kills and 13 digs, respectively.

The outside hitter led the Beach with a career-high 26 kills while hitting .318 in a five-set loss against No. 19 Oregon in Portland.

Chacon's 66.0 points rates first in The Big West in ninth nationally after the first weekend of the 2022 season.

Senior libero Dylan Dela Cruz was solid in the back row for Long Beach State, averaging 4.43 digs per set as the Beach opened the 2022 season with a 2-1 record in Portland, Ore.

Dela Cruz opened the weekend with a career-high 24 digs against Oregon State, followed by a 20-dig showing at Portland State.

In the final match of the weekend, the Long Beach, Calif., native logged 18 digs against No. 19 Oregon. The trio of opponents managed just .195 hitting on the week due in no small part to Dela Cruz' stout defensive efforts.

This is Dela Cruz' first career Big West weekly award.

Zayna Meyer's collegiate debut for Long Beach State helped the Beach to a 2-1 week at the Portland State Tournament and earned the setter a pair of Big West weekly awards.

Meyer distributed 9.71 assists per set and recorded three double-doubles in as many matches. The redshirt freshman closed the tournament averaging 3.36 digs and 1.29 points per set to go along with 10 blocks and five service aces.

The Wheaton, Ill., native kicked off the weekend with 42 assists and a career-high 18 digs against Oregon State, then posted 44 assists and 15 digs at Portland State. Meyer closed the tournament with a career-best 50 assists and 14 digs in a five-set loss versus No. 19 Oregon. The total tally of 136 assists leads The Big West and ranks sixth in NCAA Division I after the first weekend on the courts.
