UCSB's Goerke Appointed To NCAA Division I Committee On Academics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Aug. 25, 2022) – Deputy Athletic Director and Interim Senior Woman Administrator Jessica Goerke has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics effective immediately.

“Being selected to serve on the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics is an absolute honor and privilege,” Goerke said. “I look forward to joining my colleagues in deliberations that will produce both short and long-term positive impacts on the student-athlete experience. I would like to thank my Athletics Director, Kelly Barsky, as well as The Big West for this opportunity to serve our membership.”

Goerke has been with UC Santa Barbara since 2017 where she started as the Assistant Athletic Director, Director of Academic Services. This was the first role of its kind at UCSB, where she oversaw the academic success for all 450 student-athletes.

Since coming to Santa Barbara, Goerke has been promoted to her current role as Deputy Athletic Director and Interim SWA while still overseeing Academic Services. Her success shines through as she continues to support student-athletes and help them reach their full potential in the classroom, gradually raising the department’s GPA up to a 3.263 in the 2021-22 academic year.

“We have incredible gratitude for Jessica and her service to UC Santa Barbara, The Big West and the professional organizations of which she participates,” said Kelly Barsky, Interim Director of Athletics. “She's exceptionally talented and I'm thrilled for her to be able to join the NCAA Committee on Academics and serve at a national level as well. Her extensive knowledge in this area, student-centered approach, and breadth of experiences will be a wonderful asset for the committee and support furthering the organizations academic mission. A huge congratulations to Jessica and appreciation for her service.”

As stated aboved, Goerke’s appointment to this committee begins immediately. She will serve in this role with the chance for reappointment in August 2024. She will work with university presidents, faculty athletic representatives, directors of athletics, senior woman administrators, college administrators and student-athletes from all over the country.
