Cal Poly’s Noah Berry Repeats as Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week

  • Sophomore Noah Berry went 1-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles as Cal Poly notched a pair of road triumphs by the same 4-2 score at UC Irvine on Sunday and UC Riverside on Monday to remain a perfect 3-0 in Big West play and move into sole possession of first place. The Mustangs improved to 12-4 overall as winners of three straight, and on Wednesday moved up two more spots to No. 59 in the ITA national poll.
  • In singles, the product of Bellaire, Texas, rallied to defeat Antreas Djakouris, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on the No. 1 court to clinch the UCR victory. Berry’s tight match on Sunday against No. 81 Emmanuel Coste went unfinished (6-3, 5-7, 2-4).
  • At the No. 3 doubles position, Berry again partnered with Fernando Fonseca and edged Matthew Sah and Lawee Sherif, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point over UCI. The duo then also produced the doubles clincher against the Highlanders’ Ryan Huynh and Andreas Whelan-Merediz, 6-2.
  • Berry appeared in the most recent ITA singles rankings at No. 122. He is a team-best 10-4 in singles this season and a team-leading 10-2 with Fonseca in doubles as winners of eight in a row.
  • The 2021 Big West Freshman of the Year is now a back-to-back Big West Player of the Week, as the only Cal Poly men’s honoree thus far in 2022.
