- Amelia Honer won both her matches and aided No. 25 UC Santa Barbara to a 4-1 victory at No. 65 Cal Poly last Saturday that clinched a fourth successive Big West regular-season crown for the Gauchos. They are 17-6 overall heading into the postseason, and finished a perfect 9-0 in Big West play. Both teams had entered Saturday at 8-0.
- The freshman from Newtown, Pa., first joined junior partner Kira Reuter to get past Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LaMette on the No. 2 court, 6-3, and clinch the doubles point. Honer then cruised past Emily Ackerman at No. 4 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, to go up 2-0.
- Honer won all seven of her singles matchups against Big West opponents, and 12 of her last 13 contests.
- Honer is a two-time Big West Player of the Week this year, with a prior selection on March 2. Hers is the seventh award for UC Santa Barbara in 2022, more than any other program, with four different Gauchos recognized.
- UC Santa Barbara takes its season-best eight-match win streak into the 2022 Big West Women’s Tennis Championship this Wednesday through Saturday, April 27-30, at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. As the No. 1 seed and defending champions, the Gauchos will take the court on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. against the winner of Wednesday’s opening match between No. 8 seed UC Irvine and ninth-seeded UC Riverside.
