Cal Poly’s Delanie Dunkle Earns Third Career Big West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Award

  • Delanie Dunkle aided then-72nd-ranked Cal Poly to a 1-1 week as the Mustangs remained in first in The Big West at a perfect 6-0 record with a 7-0 home win over UC Riverside on Friday, April 8, ahead of a narrow 4-2 loss at No. 18 USC on Sunday, April 10.
  • Against the Highlanders, Dunkle’s match at No. 2 doubles with fellow redshirt sophomore Melissa LaMette went unfinished with the duo holding a 4-3 lead, as Cal Poly clinched the point. She then blanked Serina Saltzen at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0, to give her side a 2-0 lead.
  • On Sunday in Los Angeles, Dunkle and LaMette edged Snow Han and Danielle Wilson at No. 2, 7-6(3), to grab the doubles point for Cal Poly. The Arroyo Grande product completed her strong weekend by downing Isabelle Lee, 6-4, 6-3, again on the No. 5 singles court. Dunkle is 10-6 in singles with eight straight victories, and 9-3 in doubles with LaMette as winners of three in a row.
  • The UCR result kept Cal Poly unbeaten at home in 2022 at 9-0. The Mustangs are 13-5 overall and now ranked No. 70, with Sunday’s defeat snapping a season-best eight-match win streak.
  • Dunkle is a three-time Big West Player of the Week, with prior selections on Feb. 12, 2020, and April 14, 2021. Her younger sister Peyton earned this season’s first award back on Jan. 19. Cal Poly has had three honorees in all in 2022, with Delanie now going back-to-back with doubles partner LaMette.
