Senior outside hitter Kyle McCauley led No. 14 UC San Diego to two five-set wins at No. 11 BYU, averaging 4.11 points, 1.79 digs and 0.5 aces per set, all team-bests, en route to Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors.

On Friday, the Tritons came back from two sets down to earn their first-ever victory over the Cougars. McCauley produced a team-high 20 kills to go along with eight blocks, seven digs, and two aces in Provo, Utah. Fittingly, he had the final kill of the historic match.

In Saturday’s rematch, McCauley totaled 11 kills with nine digs, and a trio of blocks aces and assists in their second five-set victory of the week.

This is McCauley’s third career Big West honor, also claiming Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2020 (Jan. 13, Feb. 17).

Sophomore libero Ryan Pecsok directed held down the defense for No. 6 UC Santa Barbara in a pair of road wins at No. 9 Grand Canyon to earn his first career Big West weekly honor.

The Pacific Palisades, Calif., native set a career-high in digs on Friday, popping up 18 balls and recording two assists in the five-setter.

He bested that number a night later, with a 24-dig evening as the Gauchos notched back-to-back five-set wins, averaging 4.2 digs per set on the weekend.

Pecsok has recorded three consecutive double-digit dig efforts to bump his season average up to 2.04 digs per set.

Freshman Hilir Henno led UC Irvine to an upset over No. 5 Pepperdine to claim his third Big West Freshman of the Week award of the season (Jan. 10, Jan. 17).

The opposite hitter pounded down 15 kills on .346 hitting with two aces, three digs and three totals blocks in the match.

After dropping the first set 25-13, Henno started UC Irvine’s winning ways with five kills in the second set as the Anteaters reeled of three-straight to claim victory.

In the fourth set, Pepperdine held set point and after an Anteaters’ kill, Henno had a solo block and kill to turn the tide, and UC Irvine went on to close the match with a 26-24 set win.

Henno is currently in the top-25 national rankings in points (4.32 - 16th) and kills (3.47 - 22nd) per set.
