Tova Sabel, UC Davis
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Junior • Guard • Stockholm, Sweden |

- Tova Sabel’s game- and career-best 30-point outburst in a narrow 83-81 home loss to Big Sky Conference contender Northern Arizona last Monday, Dec. 19, gave the junior UC Davis guard the 2022 calendar year’s final Big West Player of the Week award.
- Sabel’s performance was The Big West’s first 30-point effort of this 2022-23 season, and the first by an Aggie since 2020-21 Big West Player of the Year Cierra Hall poured in 32 points in a 75-68 home victory over Boston University on Dec. 5, 2019.
- A product of Stockholm, Sweden, Sabel went 12-of-23 from the field, with the field goal makes (tied) and attempts also marking single-game highs in the league so far this season. The first-year transfer from Penn State was 3-for-6 from three-point range and 3-of-4 at the line, adding three rebounds, one assist and a steal in just 24 minutes off the bench.
- Sabel, who has appeared in a reserve role in all 10 games and is second on the squad at 9.1 points per contest (four in double figures), is UC Davis’ first Big West Player of the Week since Hall earned a second award for the 2021-22 campaign on Feb. 21, 2022.
- UC Davis (4-6) tips off The Big West slate at home against defending champion and preseason favorite Hawai’i at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN+ this Thursday night, Dec. 29.
Also Nominated: Ma’Qhi Berry (Long Beach State); Izzy Forsyth (UC San Diego); Hunter Hernandez (UC Irvine); Una Jovanovic (Cal State Fullerton)
