Big West Women’s Volleyball Weekly Winners Come From Trio of League-Leading Teams

  • Tommi Stockham averaged 5.83 kills per set and attacked at a rate of .265 (35-13-83) offensively to lead third-place Cal Poly to a home split and earn a third Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor. 

  • In a sweep over CSUN on Friday night, the outside hitter exploded for a match-high 22 kills at a .289 (22-9-45) clip, marking the most kills and attacks (45) by a Big West student-athlete in a three-setter in 2022. Stockham added seven digs and three block assists for 23.5 points. 

  • The third-year sophomore out of Las Vegas, Nev., then produced 13 kills and five digs in a straight-sets loss to second-place UC Santa Barbara on Saturday night. Stockham averaged 6.08 points and 2.00 digs per set for the week, and continues to top The Big West at 3.87 kills per set. 

  • A second-year transfer from Indiana, Stockham’s prior Big West Offensive Player of the Week awards came on Oct. 3 of this season, and Nov. 8, 2021. The Mustang standout was also a two-time Big West Freshman of the Week back-to-back on Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 of last year.

  • Macall Peed helped UC Santa Barbara strengthen its hold on second place with a pair of straight-set victories to sweep the road weekend and earn a third career Big West Defensive Player of the Week recognition. 

  • Peed averaged 5.00 digs, 1.00 aces and 0.83 assists per set on the trip. In Friday night’s win at CSU Bakersfield, the Gaucho libero led all players with 16 digs and was a perfect 10-for-10 on service receptions while dishing out a match- and career-best four aces and a pair of assists. 

  • Saturday night at third-place Cal Poly, the junior San Diego product again provided the match high with 14 digs, to go alongside two aces and three assists. Down 24-21 in the second frame, Peed delivered a perfect pass that led to a kill, and followed that up with back-to-back aces to tie the score. UCSB would go on to a 26-24 win on Peed’s serve. 

  • Winners of four in a row, the Gauchos are 16-8 overall and 12-2 in Big West play, with first-place Hawai’i at 13-1. 

  • Peed’s other Big West Defensive Player of the Week awards were on Sept. 26 of this season, and Oct. 4, 2021.

  • Kate Lang directed the Hawai’i offense to a combined .307 hitting percentage in a pair of sweeps to nab Big West Setter of the Week acclaim for the second time this season, also earning distinction on Sept. 26. This marks Lang’s fourth overall weekly honor after being twice tabbed as a Freshman of the Week in 2021.

  • In the three-setter against Long Beach State, the Keller, Texas, native recorded a double-double, dishing out 29 assists with 11 digs to go along with a .408 set percentage while putting down four kills, a pair of service aces and a block. The double-double was Lang’s seventh of the season, and 19th career.

  • Against the Titans, Lang posted a match-high 37 assists with a .481 set percentage while leading the Hawai’i offense to a combined .353 hitting percentage. The sophomore added two kills and six digs, tallying career dig No. 400 in the sweep of Cal State Fullerton.

  • Lang averaged 11.00 assists and 2.83 digs per frame over six sets played. She currently averages 10.23 assists per set on the season, second in The Big West.

  • Cal Poly first-year player Emme Bullis put up strong numbers for the week from the setter position to earn her season’s first Big West Freshman of the Week honor. Bullis has claimed four weekly distinctions in the 2022 campaign, thrice named Setter of the Week (Sept. 12, Oct. 3, Oct. 31).

  • Bullis’ performance on the week was highlighted by averaging 13.50 assists and 2.17 digs per set in a weekend split. The assists per set average is over a 36% increase over the setter’s season per set average of 9.91.

  • In a 3-0 win over CSUN, the native of Whitewater, Wis., finished with 44 assists, eight digs, and three blocks as the Mustangs swept the Matadors.

  • In Saturday’s loss to UC Santa Barbara, Bullis recorded 37 assists, with five digs and an ace.
