Amber Igiede was dominant over two wins on the mainland to lead Hawai’i to a third successive outright Big West title and earn a third career Big West Offensive Player of the Week award.

In the Rainbow Wahine’s come-from-behind five-set triumph at runner-up UC Santa Barbara on Friday night that clinched sole possession of first place, Igiede put down 18 kills to share the match high on .417 (18-3-36) hitting to go along with a match-best five total blocks (one solo), three digs, two assists and an ace for 22.0 total points.

On Saturday night at CSUN, the fourth-year junior out of Baton Rouge, La., put together a line of a match-best 19 kills at a .607 (19-2-28) attack rate, six total blocks (two solo), six digs and a career-high four aces.

For the week, Igiede averaged 5.44 points, 4.11 kills, 1.22 blocks, 1.00 digs and 0.56 aces per set while hitting .500 (37-5-64). Igiede has started all 28 contests for UH and reached double-digit kills in 26 of them.

Igiede’s other two Big West Offensive Player of the Week selections were on Nov. 15, 2021, and earlier this season on Oct. 31. A freshman honor had come back on Nov. 25, 2019. Igiede is also a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week, on Nov. 8, 2021, and Sept. 5, 2022.

Dylan Dela Cruz concluded her fine college career by averaging 5.50 digs per frame and totaling 33 digs in straight-set home wins over UC Davis and UC Riverside en route to weekly acclaim.

Dela Cruz first reached 13 digs to share the match high on Friday night against the Aggies. The fifth-year senior libero helped limit the visitors to a .115 attack percentage, adding six set assists.

The Long Beach native (Long Beach Poly HS) added a match-best 20 more digs and an assist on Senior Night Saturday, with the Highlanders hitting just .019. It was Dela Cruz’s 11th 20-plus-dig effort of 2022. LBSU’s two opponents managed an attack rate of only .063.

Dela Cruz appeared in all 28 matches this season for Long Beach State, and reached double-figure digs in all but two. The Beach finished in a tie for third with Cal Poly, at 19-9 overall, 14-6 in The Big West, and 12-1 inside the Walter Pyramid.

Dela Cruz is a four-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week for 2022, with prior distinctions on Aug. 29, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24. Three other conference standouts earned two apiece.

Kate Lang dished out 89 assists at an average of 9.89 per frame and set Big West champion Hawai’i to a .316 attack percentage as the Rainbow Wahine swept a road pair to clinch their third straight outright conference crown.

During Friday’s five-set thriller at runner-up UC Santa Barbara that wrapped up UH’s automatic NCAA Championship berth, the sophomore tied a season best with 55 assists (.466 set percentage) while the Rainbow Wahine hit .318 (76-21-173) as a team. Lang posted an eighth double-double for 2022 with 17 digs, and added a career-high six kills at a .385 (6-1-13) clip, two aces and two block assists for 9.0 total points.

Splitting setting duties Saturday night in a four-set victory at CSUN, Lang collected 34 set assists, six digs, three kills without an error on five attacks (.600), two more block assists and an ace for 5.0 points.

This is Lang’s third Big West Setter of the Week award, all for 2022, with prior ones on Sept. 26 and Nov. 7. The product of Keller, Texas, was also a two-time Big West Freshman of the Week a season ago, back to back on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4.

Caylen Alexander is The Big West Freshman of the Week for a league-high sixth time after a road sweep that gave Hawai’i a third successive outright conference crown.

In Friday night’s come-from-behind five-set triumph at runner-up UC Santa Barbara that officially punched UH’s ticket for an NCAA Championship return, Alexander put down 16 kills on .286 (16-6-35) hitting. The true freshman outside hitter reached double digits in kills for the 14th time, and added five digs and two aces.

The native of Alpharetta, Ga., and 2022 graduate of Centennial High School then contributed 12 kills at a .333 (12-3-27) attack rate, a season-best six total blocks (two solo) and three digs in a 3-1 win at CSUN on Saturday night. Alexander averaged 3.78 points and 3.11 kills per set.

Alexander has appeared in all 28 matches for the Rainbow Wahine, starting eight, and continues to lead the team with 33 service aces. Hawai’i closed out the regular season as a winner of 12 straight, the longest streak in The Big West in 2022, and 20 of its last 21.

UC Irvine libero Campbell Jensen picked up the next-most weekly rookie honors with three. Alexander’s earlier Big West Freshman of the Week awards were on Sept. 5, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 10 and Oct. 31.
