Maia Dvoracek put together a couple of double-double performances to lead Cal Poly to two road victories en route to a second Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor this season. The sixth-year senior opposite averaged 4.38 kills and 3.25 digs per set while hitting at a .301 (35-10-83) clip and serving eight more aces as The Big West leader (57).

In Thursday night’s five-setter over host UC Davis, Dvoracek provided a season- and match-high 22 kills (season-high 58 swings) to go along with 14 digs, four aces and two blocks.

Saturday’s sweep at UC Riverside saw the Truckee product add 13 kills on .480 (13-1-25) hitting, 12 digs, four aces, one assist and a block. Dvoracek now has double-doubles in five consecutive matches, and is eighth nationally in aces (0.59 per set).

With the weekend sweep, Cal Poly took over sole possession of third place ahead of Long Beach State, now at 15-11 overall and 12-4 in The Big West.

Dvoracek is a seven-time Big West Offensive Player of the Week, with five prior awards during the 2019 season, and one earlier this year on Sept. 19.

Deni Wilson dominated at the net as UC Santa Barbara won twice to maintain its grip on second place in the standings, earning the middle blocker a second Big West Defensive Player of the Week distinction.

Wilson averaged a hefty 2.57 blocks per set while not committing a single hitting error on offense, finishing with 15 kills on 24 swings for a .625 attack rate.

During Friday’s sweep over Cal State Fullerton, Wilson contributed eight total blocks, three of them solo efforts, with six kills for 11.5 points. The next night against fourth-place Long Beach State, the Los Angeles product added 10 total blocks (two solo) to match a career best, alongside nine kills for 15.0 points. The 10 denials equal the most by a Big West player in a four-setter in 2022. The Gauchos managed a conference four-set best of 19.0 blocks as a team, a new season high.

Wilson moved up to No. 10 all-time in UCSB program history with 304 block assists with 13 more last week.

Emme Bullis is The Big West Setter of the Week for the fourth time in 2022 after averaging 12.25 assists and 2.63 digs per set over a weekend sweep on the road for third-place Cal Poly. The Mustangs hit .314 as a team.

Bullis put together a 12th double-double of career highs of 62 assists and 16 digs in Thursday’s five-set triumph over UC Davis, to go along with one kill on two attempts and one block. That assist total is tied for the second-most in a Big West match this season, just two off the high.

In Saturday’s sweep of UC Riverside, the redshirt freshman added 36 assists, five digs, one ace, one block, and two more kills again without an error on four tries. Cal Poly attacked at a .408 (46-6-98) clip.

Bullis’ previous weekly setter awards came on Sept. 12, Oct. 3 and Oct. 31. The native of Whitewater, Wis., was also The Big West Freshman of the Week on Nov. 7.

True freshman libero Campbell Jensen averaged 8.00 digs per set in UC Irvine’s weekend split for a third Big West Freshman of the Week recognition.

Jensen first got to a season-high 32 digs in Thursday’s road sweep in La Jolla over UC San Diego, adding three assists and an ace. That dig total is tied for the fourth-most in The Big West in 2022, and seven more than the previous high for a three-setter. Jensen was perfect on serve receive.

In Saturday night’s home loss to first-place Hawai’i, Jensen compiled 16 digs and three more assists. That makes for double-digit dig efforts in all but four contests this year, with 20-plus digs on 10 occasions.

Jensen’s first two Big West Freshman of the Week awards came on Sept. 12 and Oct. 24. The Burbank native and graduate of Village Christian School is one of two conference rookies with multiple selections.
