Amber Igiede is now a two-time Big West Offensive Player of the Week after leading first-place Hawai’i with 35 kills, a .456 (35-9-57) hitting percentage and 15 total blocks in two road wins.

In UH’s sweep at UC Riverside on Thursday night, the middle blocker put down a match-high 11 kills while attacking at a .500 (11-1-20) rate with a single error. Defensively, Igiede also led all players with eight blocks, three of them solo to equal a career best.

On Saturday night at UC Davis, the fourth-year junior out of Baton Rouge, La., added a career-high 24 kills on .432 (24-8-37) hitting, and assisted on seven more blocks to share the match high. Igiede extended a double-digit kill streak to 18 contests, and has recorded at least two blocks in 19 straight matches.

For the week, Igiede averaged 5.63 points, 4.38 kills and 1.88 blocks per set, and collected five digs with an ace.

Igiede’s first Big West Offensive Player of the Week award was on Nov. 15, 2021. A freshman honor had come back on Nov. 25, 2019. Igiede is also a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week, on Nov. 8, 2021, and Sept. 5 of this year.

Shira Lahav collected 32 total digs as UC Davis split a pair of matches, garnering a fourth career Big West Defensive Player of the Week distinction.

The junior libero finished with a match-high 19 digs, four assists and an ace in a four-set, come-from-behind triumph at UC Riverside on Tuesday night. Lahav then added 13 more digs and four assists in Saturday’s five-set loss to first-place Hawai’i.

Lahav has appeared in all 22 matches this year for UC Davis, ranking fifth in The Big West in digs (336) and digs per set (3.86). The native of Bat Hefer, Israel, has 18 efforts in double-figure digs, including a season-best current string of seven in a row. Earlier this month, Lahav eclipsed the 1,000-dig plateau.

Lahav was previously The Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23, 2019, Sept. 6, 2021, and Oct. 3 of this season.

Emme Bullis is The Big West Setter of the Week for the third time in 2022 after averaging 9.88 assists and 2.88 digs per set over a weekend split away from home.

In Friday’s straight-sets victory at Cal State Fullerton, the redshirt freshman wound up with 32 assists, eight digs and a pair of aces to equal a season best. Five Mustangs had at least five kills on the night.

Saturday versus red-hot Long Beach State inside the Walter Pyramid, Bullis posted an 11th double-double with a match-high 47 assists and team-best (tied) 15 digs, to go along with four blocks. The 15 digs were a season high, with the 47 assists six shy.

Bullis’ prior weekly awards came on Sept. 12 and Oct. 3. The native of Whitewater, Wis., ranks third in The Big West in both assists (791) and assists per set (9.65), with Cal Poly (12-10, 9-3 BW) tied for third with the Beach in the latest standings.

Caylen Alexander produced 23 kills, four digs, two aces and two blocks in two road victories for Hawai’i at UC Riverside and UC Davis, and was voted as The Big West Freshman of the Week for the fifth time.

In a five-set thriller on Saturday night in Davis, the true freshman outside hitter tied a season high with 18 kills, hitting .385 (18-3-39) and reaching double digits in kills for the 11th time.

The product of Alpharetta, Ga., and Centennial High School began the week with five kills, two aces and a first collegiate solo block for 8.0 total points in a Thursday sweep in Riverside. Alexander attacked at a .314 (23-7-51) clip over the two matches.

Alexander has appeared in all 20 matches for the Rainbow Wahine, and continues to lead the team with 23 service aces.

A winner of its last four in a row and 12 of 13, defending champion and preseason favorite Hawai’i (14-6) remains alone atop The Big West standings at 11-1, just ahead of UC Santa Barbara (10-2).

No other conference rookie has more than two Big West Freshman of the Week awards in 2022. Alexander’s initial one came back on Sept. 5, with three then in succession on Sept. 26, Oct. 3 and Oct. 10.
