Standouts from Long Beach State and CSU Bakersfield at Top of Big West Table Pick up Weekly Honors

  • Lena Silano led the Beach to a perfect six-point week and sole possession of the top spot in the table with a 2-1 home triumph over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday and a 2-0 victory at Hawai’i on Sunday night.
  • A product of Agoura Hills, Silano totaled five points from two goals and an assist. Against the Titans, Silano helped set up the 11th-minute opener before tallying the 34th-minute game-winner from the penalty spot. The LBSU forward then notched Sunday’s clincher in the 31st minute.
  • Silano paces The Big West in both goals and total points with nine and 21, respectively. Over the weekend, the fifth-year senior became just the eighth Beach player to reach 20 goals for her career.
  • Of Silano’s eight shots over the past two matches, with four in each, four were on target. Silano played all 90 minutes against Cal State Fullerton and 71 in the UH contest.
  • This is Silano’s league-best second Big West Offensive Player of the Week distinction this season, and third of her career, having previously been named on Sept. 5, and on Oct. 4, 2021.

  • Zora Standifer aided the Beach to a perfect six-point week and sole possession of the top spot in the standings with a 2-1 home triumph over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday and a 2-0 shutout victory at Hawai’i on Sunday night.
  • The sophomore out of Carson played all 180 minutes in the two contests, facing 24 shots in all and compiling eight saves while surrendering just the solitary goal against the Titans. Standifer made a season-high seven stops versus the Rainbow Wahine to equal a career best.
  • Standifer has started LBSU’s last three games, each of them wins, and appeared in six in all this year. Sunday marked her second individual clean sheet of 2022 and fourth collegiately.
  • Standifer is a first-time Big West weekly honoree.

  • Kalea Eichenberger, a true freshman out of Rancho Cucamonga and Etiwanda High School, helped the Roadrunners go an unbeaten 1-0-1 at home for the past week, through a 3-1 defeat of Cal Poly on Thursday night and a 1-1 draw against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.
  • A forward, Eichenberger recorded her first collegiate two-goal brace in Thursday’s victory over the Mustangs. Eichenberger opened the scoring just 2:27 into the contest, and also capped it with an 84th-minute clincher, both times assisted by Regielly Halldorsdottir. Each of her two shots on the night, across 60 minutes of action, resulted in scores.
  • Eichenberger also began Sunday’s tilt with the Gauchos and played 51 minutes. The freshman has been in the starting 11 in 10 of her 12 appearances.
  • Eichenberger, a first-time Big West weekly honoree, now tops CSU Bakersfield with four goals on the season, and shares the team’s points lead with Halldorsdottir at nine apiece. The `Runners sit alone in second place with a 2-1-2 league ledger and eight total points.
