Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Junior • Forward • Santa Rosa, Calif.

  • Cindy Arteaga’s two-goal brace helped CSUN to a rousing 4-2 victory at UC Riverside to close out the 2022 campaign on Thursday and give the forward her second Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor.

  • The Santa Rosa product opened the scoring early in the sixth minute, and made it 4-0 shortly after halftime in the 50th. She started and played 68 minutes, finishing with five shots, three of them on goal.

  • Arteaga’s second brace of 2022 came in potentially the final match of her career, as though she is listed as a fourth-year junior, she will graduate this spring. She wound up with career highs of nine goals and 19 total points, both ranking second in The Big West. The nine goals put her at No. 2 in CSUN’s single-season record book. Arteaga moved up to eighth all-time in Matador history with her 12 collegiate goals.

  • Arteaga appeared in all 19 matches in 2022, drawing 17 starts. Thursday night’s result marked the Matadors’ lone Big West win and pulled them out of last and into a 10th-place league finish.

  • Arteaga is now a two-time Big West Offensive Player of the Week, having also been named on Sept. 19.

Also Nominated: Alyssa Moore (UC Irvine); Olivia Ortiz (Cal Poly); Karla Rodriguez (Cal State Fullerton)

  • Caeley Goldstein posted a critical clean sheet as UC Davis knocked off host Long Beach State, 1-0, on a late Sarah Canavan goal and locked up the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye for the 2022 Big West Championship, giving her a second Big West Defensive Player of the Week award.

  • The redshirt sophomore Half Moon Bay native and first-year transfer from Washington was credited with a season-high nine saves for her fifth shutout. She faced 19 shots on the night, one shy of her season high, as the Aggies were out-shot in the game, 19-7, but came up with the only score. UC Davis also turned away 14 corner kicks.

  • Goldstein has started all 18 matches this season for the Aggies and played all 1,620 minutes. Her save percentage stands at .798, with 67 total stops ranking fourth in the conference.

  • UC Davis (9-5-4, 6-2-2 Big West) heads into the postseason a winner of a season-high five straight, the longest current streak in the league. The Aggies await this Sunday’s winner between No. 6 seed UC Irvine and No. 3 seed Cal State Fullerton in the conference semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 3, in San Luis Obispo.

  • Goldstein thus bookends the 2022 Big West Defensive Player of the Week awards, having garnered the initial one back on Aug. 22.
