Simao Telo Alves Claims Season's First Men's Tennis Weekly Honor 1/19/2022 3:05:00 PM Share: Simao Telo Alves, Hawai’i Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Junior • Lisboa, Portugal Opening the season at the Hawai‘i Invitational tournament, junior Simao Telo Alves won all three of his singles matches plus one doubles match to claim the season’s first Big West Player of the Week award. In his season opener, Alves swept BYU's Dominik Jalovljevic, 6-3, 6-2. On the second day of action, he held off BYU's Brigham Andrus in two sets that ended in a tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (3). The native of Lisboa Portugal, finished the event after outlasting BYU's Matheus Ferreira Leite in a three-set marathon which ended in a third set, super-tiebreaker, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 10-8. In doubles, Alves also picked up a win with partner Karl Collins as the duo defeated California's Lucas Magnaudet and Michael Wright, 8-4.
