Thelle and Henno Earn Season's First Men's Volleyball Weekly Awards

Jakob Thelle, Hawai’i 
Men’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

  • Hawai’i junior Jakob Thelle directed the Rainbow Warriors to a pair of wins over No. 7 Loyola-Chicago to open their national title defense.  

  • The setter from Tonsburg, Norway tallied 72 total assists, or 10.29 per set, and led Hawai’i to a team hitting percentage of .367 in the two matches. 

  • Thelle added a creer-high six aces and tied a career high with four blocks in the season opener. He finished with 10 digs, nine aces, five blocks and five kills on the weekend.  

  • He was also named AVCA Division I-II National Player of the Week for his efforts. This is Thelle’s first career Big West weekly award.

Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week 
Freshman • Opposite Hitter • Pornichet, France

  • Opposite hitter Hilir Henno helped UC Irvine to a season-opening weekend split en route to Big West Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week honors to open the 2022 season.  

  • The opposite hitter from Pornichet, France, tallied 40.0 points, averaging 3.88 kills, 3.25 digs, 0.75 blocks and 0.75 aces per set in his collegiate volleyball debut. 

  • Henno led the Anteaters in digs in both matches, including popping up 19 at Stanford. He also posted five block assists and 22 kills against the Cardinal.  

  • He opened the year with nine kills, seven digs and four aces against Lindenwood in the neutral-court matchup.
