2021 Beach Volleyball All-Conference Team

The 2020-21 edition of the Big West Beach Volleyball major awards were split among the two programs that took part in the 2021 Big West Championship. The league’s Pair of the Year award went to Cal Poly’s, EMILY SONNY and MACY GORDON while the Big West Champion Mustangs also claimed Coach of the Year Honors with Head Coach TODD ROGERS. The Freshman of the Year Honors was awarded to Hawai’i’s AMBER IGIEDE, marking The Rainbow Wahine's fifth consecutive Freshman of the Year selection dating back to 2016.

PAIRS TEAM OF THE YEAR • EMILY SONNY & MACY GORDON

SONNY: Senior • Arroyo Grande, Calif. • Arroyo Grande HS
GORDON: Junior Paradise Valley, Az. • Xavier College Prep

• Played from the No. 1 spot throughout the season, posting a team best 23-10 overall record in their matches, en route to Cal Poly’s second appearance into the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship

• Named Pair of the Week for a record four times in one season. As a pair, Sonny and Gordon have been recognized as Pair of the Week five times since their collegiate careers began.

• Sonny and Gordon’s 23-10 record as a pair makes them the second winningest pair in program history.

• During the season, Emily Sonny became the first Mustang to acheive over 100 wins in her career

• Become the second pairs team to be recognized as Pairs Team of the Year in Cal Poly’s history (Tia Miric & Chrissy Jones, 2019)

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR • AMBER IGIEDE, HAWAI’I

Baton Rouge, La. • St. Michael the Archangel

• Fifth member of the Rainbow Wahine to win Freshman of the Year award (Emily Magio, Morgan Martin, Lea Monkhouse, Pani Napoleon)

• The recogition for Freshman of the Year makes it Hawai’is fifth consecutive Freshman of the Year Honors 

• Named to the Big West Pair of the Week for the week of April 19th, after securing victory of the Husky Invitational in Seattle

• Led Hawai’i in the No. 1 spot, including an upset victory over the No. 1 seed Cal Poly in the semifinals of the Big West Championship 

COACH OF THE YEAR • TODD ROGERS, CAL POLY

• Second time being recognized as the Big West Coach of the Year (2019), after consecutive appearances in the NCAA Beach Volleyball Tournament

• Led the Mustangs to theirfirst NCAA Tournament victory in program history, after defeating the No. 6 seed Stanford 3-2

• Piloted Cal Poly to a 24-11 record for a .686 winning percentage

• Guided Cal Poly to a victory in the Big West Championship after falling to Hawai’i in the semifinals, before winning 3 matches in a row to secure its second Big West title in a row.
