MEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

• UC Irvine graduate student Bjorn Hoffmann notched his third Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award this season as he defeated a nationally ranked singles opponent.
• Hoffmann is the first individual to earn three Athlete of the Week honors in one season since Cal Poly’s Josh Ortlip in 2018.
• He is also the first three-time Anteater recipient since Sebastian Heim in 2015.
• Hoffmann’s marquee win came against Cal Poly’s No. 1 singles player Alex Stater. Hoffmann fought off a first set loss to down the No. 77-ranked Stater by scores of 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Hoffmann provided one of UCI’s two points in the 5-2 loss.
• The Cal transfer also won in singles against Portland State’s Matteo Fortini (6-2, 6-3). He teamed with Mateusz Smolicki in a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles over the Viking tandem of Fortini and Tommy Edwards.
