Cal Poly's Bhunu Makes Women's Tennis Honor Roll For Second Time

• Cal Poly junior Kim Bhunu notched her second Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award this season as she helped the Mustangs remain undefeated.

The Mustangs swept UC Irvine (7-0) to improve to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big West.

Bhunu overcame some early struggles at No. 2 singles against UCI’s Halla Ajajeely. After losing the first set, Bhunu roared back for a, 1-6, 7-6 (1), 10-1 victory. The win bettered Bhunu’s dual record in singles to 5-1.

In addition, Bhunu teamed with Emily Ackerman at No. 1 doubles as the pair continued to dominate the competition, defeating Arianna Tilbury and Jenna Schlatter, 6-2. The Mustang duo is now a perfect 4-0 together this season.

Going back to the 2020 season, Cal Poly has won 10 consecutive duals.
