WOMEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

• CSUN junior Jolene Coetzee excelled in her team’s season debut to earn Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.
• Opening the season at perennial Big West power Hawai‘i, the Matadors put forth a spirited effort in a 4-3 loss. Coetzee provided the first of CSUN’s three points as she opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over UH’s Satsuki Takamura at the No. 2 slot. Takamura had a No. 109 national ranking last year in singles at one point.
• The Matadors did not clinch the doubles point, but Coetzee and partner Ana Fraile Toboso contributed to the effort. They earned a commanding 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over the Rainbow Wahine tandem of Takamura and Nikola Dolakova.
