NCAA Tournament Program
Big West Tournament champion UC Davis was given a 12-seed in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament bracket, earning a matchup against No. 5 seed Missouri State in the Alamo Region. The No. 12 seed is the highest for a Big West Conference school since UC Santa Barbara was a No. 11 seed in 2004.
The Aggies (13-2), making their second straight NCAA appearance and third overall, will take on the Bears on Monday, March 22 at 4:30 pm PT on ESPNU. This also marks the eighth postseason appearance for the program in its 14-year Division I history, making WNIT trips in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2017, and 2018.
Despite a 59-day layoff due to Yolo County health orders and restrictions, UCD won the Big West regular season title, then defeated Cal State Fullerton, Hawai'i and UC Irvine on its way to the tournament crown. The Aggies also won the Tournament in 2019 and 2011 and were the top seed of the 2020 tourney that was cancelled due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic. The program is in search of its first NCAA Tournament victory.
Missouri State (21-2) earned at an at-large berth out of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears opted out of the conference tournament after their semifinal opponent received positive coronavirus tests. The team entered the tournament as the top seed after winning the regular season title. Missouri State has won 17 games in a row and appears in the national rankings at No. 20 in the Associated Press and No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
