UC Irvine's Welp Earns Second Men's Hoops Weekly Award

• UC Irvine junior Collin Welp captured Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for February 22-28.

• Welp tallied his second career honor as he also was recognized on Dec. 29.

• Welp averaged a double-double of 24.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game to help the Anteaters to a pair of home wins over UC San Diego.

• The 6-9 forward posted a season-high 29 points on 14-of-17 shooting in Friday’s 80-55 victory. He added 10 rebounds and four steals, all in just 24 minutes of action.

• Welp notched 19 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in Saturday’s 75-64 triumph. He connected on 3-of-6 from distance.

• The double-doubles were his third and fourth consecutive. He leads the Big West with six double-doubles this season and has 11 for his career.

• The Seattle native shot a 63.6% (21-of-33) from the floor and made all three of his free throw attempts.

• Welp has scored in double figures in nine straight games and in 20 of his 22 appearances this season.

• Over his last five games, Welp is averaging 21.8 points per game.
