Hawai‘i Sweeps Initial Men's Volleyball Weekly Awards

• Hawai‘i senior Rado Parapunov earned his 11th career Big West Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week honor – and the first of the 2021 season.

• The 6-9 opposite averaged 4.00 kills, 1.86 digs and 0.71 blocks per set on .388 (28-9-49) hitting as the No. 2-ranked Rainbow Warriors defeated UC Irvine in back-to-back non-conference road matches.

• Parapunov’s 28 kills led the team.

• The native of Sofia, Bulgaria hit .391 with 13 kills, eight digs and two blocks in Sunday’s four-set victory. He returned Monday with a match-high 15 kills on .385 efficiency, adding two aces, five digs and three blocks in a sweep of the Anteaters.

• Parapunov also surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark as UH opened the season 2-0.

• He also captured his third career Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week award.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

• Hawai‘i junior Gage Worsley secured his fourth career Big West Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award as the anchor behind a non-conference season-opening two wins against UC Irvine.

• The 6-1 libero totaled 17 digs in the two wins for a 2.43 digs per set average.

• Worsley recorded nine digs in a four-set win in the season opener on Sunday and followed up with eight scoops in Monday’s rematch.

• Worsley committed only two reception errors in 42 total attempts.
