First Softball Honors of 2021 Split Among Two Schools

FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JULIA VALENZUELA, CAL STATE FULLERTON

• Cal State Fullerton senior Julia Valenzuela paced the Titans at the plate in the season-opening weekend, earning Field Player of the Week honors.

• Starting all four games behind the plate, Valenzuela hit .375, which included a pair of hits in the season-opening loss to Oregon State and her third career triple against Utah State.

• She also recorded three RBI, two coming in the first game against the Beavers and another coming in the next game against the Aggies.

• Valenzuela also showed off her defense, cleanly handling all 19 total chances and throwing out the lone runner attempting to steal.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
TAYLOR FITZGERALD, UC DAVIS

Sophomore• RHP • Rocklin, Calif. • Rocklin HS

• UC Davis sophomore Taylor Fitzgerald was lights out over the first weekend, earning Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.

• She started her weekend with a big performance in an extra-inning loss to Cal Baptist. Fitzgerald pitched 9.0 innings, allowing five hits, three runs (one earned) and four strikeouts.

• Working out of the bullpen in her next two appearances, Fitzgerald pitched 2.1 innings, allowing a combined six hits, three runs and no earned runs.

• For the weekend the sophomore posted a 0.62 ERA over her 11.1 innings of work.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
BAILEY WALLACE, CAL STATE FULLERTON
OF • Alpine, Calif. • Granite Hills HS

• Cal State Fullerton outfielder Bailey Wallace had an impressive start to her collegiate career, resulting in Freshman of the Week accolades.

• The first-year player had two hits in three of her four games, resulting in a .429 batting average for the weekend.

• She also scored a run in three games and posted a .500 on-base percentage.
