Cal Poly's Bhunu Tabbed Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Cal Poly sophomore Kim Bhunu earned her first career Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award with an undefeated effort in singles and doubles.

Bhunu went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles as the Mustangs notched a pair of home wins against Grand Canyon and BYU by identical 6-1 scores.

She posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Grand Canyon’s Emilia Occhipinti on Friday. In Saturday’s match against Leah Heimuli of BYU, Bhunu overcame a first set loss to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

She and Emily Ackerman also won their doubles matches against their opponents, including a 6-1 triumph over BYU’s Anastasia Abramyan and Qianxin Kong.
