Five women from The Big West were tapped with All-Region accolades, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Assocation (AVCA). The Big West has seen at least one All-Region performer in both the Pacific North and the Pacific South since the AVCA split the West Region teams into two awards groups in 2013.
Big West Player of the Year Brooke Van Sickle of Hawai'i sees her name on the Pacific North All-Region squad as the lone All-Region honoree from a conference other than the Pac-12. Van Sickle led The Big West in points per set, averaging 4.47 per frame. The native of Battle Ground, Wash., paced the Rainbow Wahine at the service line with 38 aces, and was second on the squad in digs per set with 3.15. She finished her Hawai'i career with 593 kills, 525 digs, 58 service aces and 105 total blocks in her two years in Manoa.
Also picking up All-Region team acclaim is UC Santa Barbara's Rowan Ennis. The senior middle blocker from was selected for the Pacific South All-Region team after leading The Big West in hitting percentage in 2021. Hailing from Virginia Beach, Va., Ennis capped the season hitting .434 with 246 total kills in 119 sets on the court for the Gauchos. Her hitting percentage rates sixth in NCAA Division I, and serves as the all-time UCSB record.
Three women earned honorable mention status in their respective regions. Hawai'i sophomore middle blocker Amber Igiede is making a repeat appearance on the Pacific North Region listings after her second season on the court for the Rainbow Wahine. Hailing from Baton Rouge, La., Igiede finished the year as Hawai'i's blocks leader with 136.0, including 24 solo stuffs for Hawai'i. Her .388 hitting percentage led the team, and she finished second to Van Sickle in both kills (2.95) and points (3.78) per set.
Long Beach State junior Kashauna Williams earned Pacific South Region honorable mention status. The Angelino reigns as The Big West kill leader for 2021, averaging 4.04 per set as she powered down 452 total kills on the year. Williams concluded her junior campaign with 27 double-digit kill matches and a pair of double-doubles for the Beach, and is the first Long Beach State student-athlete to earn all-region recognition since Nele Barber in 2016.
Rounding out The Big West selections is Deni Wilson of UC Santa Barbara, a Pacific South Region honorable mention selection. Joining Ennis at the net for the Gauchos, Wilson was also an efficient hitter, swinging a .391 hitting percentage to rate 24th nationally and eighth in the West Region. She sent down 125 total blocks, 1.04 per set, including 15 total blocks in two victories over Big West champions Hawai'i.
Ennis and Van Sickle now advance to the All-American ballot.
