The Big West Announces 2021 Women's Soccer All-Conference Team

IRVINE, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2021) - The All-Big West women's soccer teams and major award winners have been announced, a day in advance of the semifinal round of the The Big West 2021 Women's Soccer Championship in Irvine.

UC Irvine senior Scarlett Camberos is The Big West Offensive Player of the Year courtesy of her league-leading 12 goals and 31 points. Those numbers tie her for 16th in the nation in points and 18th in goals. Camberos also has seven assists on the season, good for third in The Big West. Her performance throughout the season led the Anteaters to a share of the regular season title and was honored as the Offensive Player of the Week three times. Camberos was a Second Team member in 2019.

After leading her team to a share of the conference's regular season title, sophomore Camille Lafaix of Cal Poly is The Big West Midfielder of the Year. Lafaix tallied eight goals and three assists for 19 points on the season, sixth best in The Big West and first amongst midfielders. On defense, the Mustangs sported a 1.00 goals-against average in conference play. Lafaix was a member of the All-Freshman Team and an all-conference honorable mention selection in 2019.

Long Beach State redshirt senior Kaitlin Fregulia and UC Irvine junior Maddy Chavez will share The Big West Defensive player of the Year honor. It is the second time Fregulia has won Defensive Player of the Year as she garnered the same award as a sophomore in 2017. Fregulia's defensive performance throughout the season is reflected in Long Beach State's goals-against average of 0.89, the best in The Big West in overall play. On the offensive side of the ball, Fregulia has one goal and one assist. Fregulia was an all-conference honorable mention selection and made the All-Freshman team in 2016, a First Team selection in 2017 and a Second Team member in 2019. Chavez led the Anteaters defense to the best goals-against average in conference play at 0.60 and recorded five shutouts. She also has one assist on the season. It is the first conference honor for Chavez.

The Goalkeeper of the Year will go to UC Irvine redshirt sophomore Glo Hinojosa, who led the conference in goals against average, at 0.78, and shutouts, with seven. She compiled 49 saves throughout the season. Hinojosa and the Anteater defense shutout UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly, two teams that qualified for the conference tournament, in the final week of the regular season to win a share of the conference's regular season title. It is the first conference honor in Hinojosa's career. She was named Defensive Player of the Week three times.

Long Beach State's Maddy Perez is the Freshman of the Year as she logged over 1,650 minutes on the pitch for the Beach and amassed one goal and three assists on the season to total five points. From her midfield position, Perez helped the Beach defense to a 0.89 goals-against average, the best mark in the conference.

By leading the Mustangs to a share of the regular season title with an 8-2 conference record and a 12-7 overall record, Cal Poly head coach Alex Crozier earns his fifth Coach of the Year honor. The all-time winningest women's soccer coach in The Big West previously won the same honor in 1996, 1997, 2002 and 2003.
