Trio Keeps Big West Records Perfect to Claim Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

  • Senior Rowan Ennis helped lead the Gauchos to a perfect 4-0 start in Big West play, averaging 3.93 points and 3.00 kills per set on the weekend. The middle blocker was also big at the net adding nine blocks in her seven sets on the court. 

  • Against Cal Poly, she posted a potent 9-1-11 line for a season-high .727 hitting percentage as the Gauchos became the first team to sweep the Mustangs at home since 2016. 

  • Saturday against Cal State Bakersfield, the Virginia Beach, Va., native added 12 kills on .500 hitting in the 3-1 road victory.  

  • This marks the second career weekly award for Ennis, who was named Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 16, 2019.

  • Libero Macall Peed was the anchor of the Gaucho defense as they improved to 4-0 in conference play.  

  • Hailing from San Diego, the sophomore posted a 5.71 digs per set average and was nearly perfect on service receptions committing just one error on 39 attempts.  

  • She saw 15 of those digs Friday night in a sweep of Cal Poly, and matched her career-high with 25 more the following night at Cal State Bakersfield.  

  • In the third set of the matchup with the Mustangs, the Gauchos trailed 18-15 until Peed stepped to the service line and led the team on a 7-0 run that all but sealed the match for UC Santa Barbara.

Women’s Volleyball Freshman of the Week

  • Freshman setter Kate Lang recorded her first two career double-doubles and helped lead Hawai’i to a pair of Big West victories and a 4-0 record to share the top line in the league standings.  

  • Against Long Beach State, she efficiently distributed the Rainbow Wahine’s offensive attack, dishing out 37 assists while Hawai’i hit a team .349 hitting percentage with all five starting hitters recording at least six kills apiece in the sweep. She added a team-high 11 digs to capture the double-double.  

  • Lang recorded a career-high 51 assists to go along with 17 digs in Sunday’s match against Cal State Fullerton. She was in on two blocks with a kill and a service ace in the four-set victory over the Titans. 

  • This is the second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor for the native of Keller, Texas.
