RACE PREVIEW

The Big West Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be hosted by UC Davis, at Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 29. The course consists of 2K grass loops with rolling hills nestled alongside a pecan orchard. It is compact and is expected to be quick for the racers. The women will complete the loop three times and the men four times.

The meet, which determines the conference's individual and team champions, will start with the men's 8K race at 9 a.m. and conclude with the women's 6K race that is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start time. The awards ceremony will follow after the conclusion of the women's competition.

On the men's side, Cal Poly has won the last four titles, and 14 of the last 17. Individually, UC Santa Barbara's Nick Randazzo looks to be the favorite as he was an NCAA Championships individual qualifier in 2019 and won the 2021 Stump Invitational (preview meet). In total, there will be 67 men from eight institutions competing.

In the women's race, Cal State Fullerton will aim to defend their 2019 title. The Titans bring back Trinity Ruelas who finished third and is the top returning finisher from 2019. Other women aiming to be in the mix are UC Irvine's Hannah Chau (fifth in 2019) and Sierra Atkins of UC Davis, who won the Stump Invitational. In total, there will be 85 women from 10 institutions competing.
