UC Irvine's Davis Named Men's Hoops Player of the Week

• UC Irvine freshman DJ Davis has been named the Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 4-10.

• Davis is the first UCI freshman to earn the Player of the Week award since Luke Nelson on Feb. 10, 2014.

• Davis, a 6-0 guard, led the Anteaters to their fourth straight win with a game and career-high 23 points at UC San Diego Saturday.

• Trailing 28-24 at halftime, UCI exploded for 55 second half points as Davis scored 19 of his 23 in that stanza. Davis knocked down a career-high five threes, all of them coming in a three minute and 19 second span, and the last of which provided the Anteaters a 61-44 lead with 8:32 to go in the game.

• The five triples are the most by an Anteater this season.

• Davis finished 8 of 11 from the field, including 5 of 8 from three-point range, and also made 2 of 3 at the charity stripe.

• David padded his stat line with two assists, a rebound and a steal in 22 minutes of action.

• He is UCI’s fourth-leading scorer at 8.6 points per game. He leads the team in three-pointers made (13), free throws made (19) and free throws attempted (25).
