Rojas, Blanco Named Softball Weekly Honorees

• UC Davis junior Alyse Rojas captured Big West Softball Field Player of the Week accolades as the team’s leading hitter at the Golden State Classic in Lake Elsinore.

• Rojas hit a torrid .684 with 13 hits in 19 at bats to help the Aggies to a pair of victories.

• She homered three times, and had a double and triple to post a 1.316 slugging percentage.

• Rojas went 3-for-4 with a pair of blasts, three runs scored and two RBI in a 6-3 loss to Bradley in the tournament opener.

• The outfielder was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored in a 12-11 win over Loyola Marymount.

• Rojas had at least one hit in all five games, including a 3-for-3 performance versus Utah State. She also hit a home run and drove in three in an 11-2 rout of Portland State.

• Rojas has now hit safely in 12 consecutive games going back to game two of last year’s season-ending doubleheader in Hawai‘i. She has not struck out in 42 plate appearances in 2020.

SOFTBALL PITCHER & FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

• UC Riverside’s Briza Blanco earned the dual awards of Big West Softball Pitcher and Freshman of the Week as a key contributor to her team’s 3-1 record at the Highlander Classic.

• Blanco posted a 0.44 ERA over 16.0 innings pitched, giving up just two runs (one earned) while striking out 10.

• Blanco went 3-0 with victories in starts against San Diego State and UTEP. She also picked up the win in relief over Santa Clara.

• The Murrieta, Calif., native threw four innings of four-hit shutout ball in a 5-0 victory over the Aztecs.

• She tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief in a 6-4 win against the Broncos. In a 11-1 run-rule victory over the Miners, Blanco pitched all five innings, surrendering five hits with one unearned run and five strikeouts.
