Dunkle Named Women's Tennis Athlete Of The Week

Freshman Delanie Dunkle helped Cal Poly maintain its undefeated streak to start the 2020 season in garnering Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.

The Mustang newcomer held down her No. 3 singles position with a pair of straight set wins that aided Cal Poly’s shutout efforts against San Jose State (4-0) and Sacramento State (7-0). Cal Poly is now 5-0 and off to its best start in a decade.

Dunkle won her match against Spartan counterpart Tamara Culibrk, 6-2, 6-4, and surrendered just five games in a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hornet foe Ege Tomey. Dunkle is a team-best 5-0 in singles to begin her Cal Poly career.

At No. 2 doubles, Dunkle and partner Melissa LaMette improved to a team-best 4-0. The duo defeated San Jose State’s Savannah Sendar and Lara Marco Mas, 6-2. They then turned around and handed Sacramento State’s Tomey and Tsveti Yotova a 6-4 defeat.
