Manjon, Sow Named To Lou Henson Award Watch List

LOU HENSON AWARD WATCH LIST

IRVINE, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2020) – UC Davis sophomore guard EZRA MANJON and UC Santa Barbara junior forward AMADOU SOW were selected to the Lou Henson Award Watch List by CollegeInsider.com, which annually grants the honor to the top mid-major player in Division I.

Manjon earned Big West preseason all-conference honors following a 2019-20 campaign in which he was named Freshman of the Year. He led all Big West freshman and ranked 14th overall in scoring at 12.1 PPG. He also was fourth in assists per game (4.1 APG) en route to All-Big West Second Team accolades.

Through three games this season, Manjon leads the Big West in scoring (23.0 PPG). He scored 20 points or more in every game at the Bronco Invitational last week as he notched Big West Player of the Week honors. The three 20-point games nearly matches the four he had all of last season.

Sow, a two-time All-Big West Second Team pick, joined Manjon on the preseason all-conference team. The Bamako, Mali, native ranked No. 4 in the Big West in scoring (14.1 PPG), No. 2 in rebounding (7.0 RPG) and No. 3 in blocked shots (1.1 BPG) last season as he was the only player in the conference to finish in the top five in all three categories.

He is the active Big West scoring leader with 848 points, and ranks second among current players in rebounds (433) and third in blocked shots (59). Sow scored 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting in UCSB’s season-opening 92-55 win against St. Katherine on Sunday.

The mid-major player of the year award is named in honor of the late Lou Henson, who won 775 games in 41 seasons between head coaching stops at Illinois and New Mexico State. He is the winningest coach at both universities. Henson owns the distinction of being one of only 11 coaches to take two programs to the Final Four.

The award recipient will be announced in April.
