Vedri, Breisacher Capture Weekly Tennis Awards

ALEJANDRO VEDRI, UC SANTA BARBARA
MEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sophomore • Valencia, Spain

UC Santa Barbara sophomore Alejandro Vedri went undefeated in singles and doubles en route to Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.

Vedri notched two singles victories and went 3-0 in doubles with partner Joseph Guillin as the Gauchos played three tough opponents on the week.

Completing a trip to the Pacific Northwest, Vedri contributed to two UCSB points in a narrow 4-3 loss to Washington. He dispatched Washington’s Ewen Lumsden from the No. 2 position by a 6-4, 6-4 score. He also helped the Gauchos score the doubles point with a 6-4 win against the Husky duo of Liam Puttergill and Adam Torocsik.

At the ITA Kick-Off Classic over the weekend, Vedri won his No. 3 singles match against Santa Clara’s Vasileios Iliopoulos (5-7, 6-1, 6-2). He and Guillin represented the only UCSB victory in doubles, taking down Nick Cmager and Mann Shah, 6-4, at No. 2. Again, despite Vedri’s best efforts, UCSB dropped a tight 4-3 decision.

In UCSB’s 4-1 win over UNC Wilmington, Vedri won his third doubles match of the week with Guillin.
