• Cal Poly freshman Abbey Ellis garnered Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades for the first time in her career.
• The 5-foot-5 guard scored a career-high 37 points – nearly half of her team’s offensive production – in a 75-70 win over UC Riverside on Thursday.
• The 37 points is tied for the top-scoring effort by a freshman across the country this season – and tied for the 20th-highest single-game output among all players.
• It was the highest-scoring game by a Mustang since Jan. 4, 2018 when Dynn Leaupepe collected 40 points against UCR.
• Ellis also set career-highs for field goals made (14) and field goals attempted (20). She made a trio of three-pointers (in 6 attempts) and knocked down all six of her free throw tries.
• The native of Australia added four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 35 minutes of action.
• Ellis had nine points, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot in Saturday’s 42-36 loss to UC Davis.
• She shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the field and 90.0 percent (9-of-10) at the foul line, while averaging 3.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals during the 1-1 conference week.
