Cal Poly junior Antoine Noel earned Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors after helping his squad to an upset of No. 50 Utah in non-conference action.
• The Mustangs defeated the Utes, 5-2, as Noel won his third straight singles match. He downed David Micevski by scores of 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
• Noel also paired with Gary Vardanyan at No. 3 doubles, and together they outlasted the Utah pair of Russell Benkaim and Joe Woolley, 6-4.
• Noel improved to 7-2 on the season in dual singles matches.
• In doubles, Noel and Vardanyan moved to 3-1 as a pair.

JOLENE COETZEE, CSUN • WOMEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

CSUN freshman Jolene Coetzee played a big role in her team’s success to secure her first career Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award.
• Coetzee went 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles as the Matadors captured victories over Youngstown State (7-0), Radford (5-2) and Cal State Fullerton (4-3).
• None of her four wins was a big as the one at No. 2 singles against CSF’s Sarah Nuno. With CSUN trailing 3-1, Coetzee pulled back a point with her 6-4, 6-4 triumph, and the Matadors eventually went on to win, 4-3, over the Big West’s first place team.
• Coetzee also had a 7-5, 6-3 win against Youngstown State’s Tamara Teufl.
• At No. 2 doubles, Coetzee and partner Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso won twice, including a 7-6 triumph against YSU’s Imaan Hassim and Claudia Barboza.
