Cal State Fullerton Sweeps Weekly Softball Honors

KELSIE WHITMORE, CAL STATE FULLERTON – SOFTBALL FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK

• Cal State Fullerton junior Kelsie Whitmore hit safely in four straight games to garner the Big West Softball Field Player of the Week award.

• The outfielder hit .545 (6-for-11) to lead the Titans to a 3-1 record.

• She scored two runs and had two RBIs in a sweep of UC Santa Barbara, helping CSF emerge as the only 3-0 team after one week of Big West action. The Titans outscored the Gauchos, 10-3, during the three-game set.

• Whitmore scored the only run in Saturday’s game one 1-0 victory, finishing 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

• She recorded a pair of 2-for-3 performances to close out the series. In game two, Whitmore had an RBI double in the eighth inning of an eventual 6-2 victory. She also drove in the first run of game three, and stole her second base of the series in Sunday’s 3-1 triumph.

SOPHIE FROST, CAL STATE FULLERTON – SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

• Cal State Fullerton junior Sophie Frost threw 14.2 innings of scoreless ball to tally her first Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week award this season.

• Frost made three appearances for the Titans, including one start, and finished 2-0 with both wins coming against Big West foe UC Santa Barbrara.

• She tossed 2.0 innings of relief against nationally ranked UCLA without allowing a hit or run in a 5-1 loss. She struck out a pair of Bruins.

• In CSF’s series sweep of UCSB, Frost started once and relieved in her other appearance. She started the series opener and recorded her third complete game shutout in a 1-0 triumph. The right-hander scattered seven hits while walking one and striking out four.

• Frost emerged from the bullpen in game two and stifled the Gaucho offense again. She allowed just two hits and no runs in a 5.2 inning stint with no walks and two strikeout.

• Frost extended her scoreless innings streak to 17 straight.

DANI MARTINEZ, CAL STATE FULLERTON – SOFTBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
RHP • Bellflower, Calif. • Gahr HS

• Dani Martinez collected her second Big West Softball Freshman of the Week honor as the Cal State Fullerton standout picked up a win in a conference series.

• The right-hander appeared three times and registered a 1-0 record with a 2.90 ERA over 9.2 innings pitched.

• Martinez threw 2.1 innings of relief against UCLA with two strikeouts.

• She also made a relief appearance in Sunday’s 3-1 win over UC Santa Barbara. Martinez was the winning pitcher after tossing five innings of one-hit scoreless ball with three strikeouts.

• The Bellflower native allowed two runs and a pair of walks in her one start against UCSB on Friday.
