First Place Cal State Fullerton Sweeps Softball Weekly Honors

• Junior Kelsie Whitmore earned her second Big West Softball Field Player of the Week award, helping Cal State Fullerton to the conference series sweep of Hawai‘i.

• The outfielder hit .667 (4-for-6) in the series with three of her hits going for extra bases. She posted a 1.500 slugging percentage for the series.

• Whitmore delivered the game-winning RBI on a second inning double in the 4-2 game one victory.

• She scored a pair of runs, doubled and finished 2-for-3 to help the Titans rebound from a five-run deficit and win 9-8 in game two.

• The Temecula native keyed an 8-0, five-inning run-rule victory with a three-run home run in the series-clinching sweep. She scored four runs and drove in four more in the series.

DANI MARTINEZ, CAL STATE FULLERTON • SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

• Continuing an electric freshman campaign, Cal State Fullerton’s Dani Martinez earned her second Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week award.

• In a showdown for first place between the Titans and Hawai‘i, CSF rode the arm of Martinez to three straight wins as she finished 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA over 13.0 innings of work.

• The right-hander struck out 15 batters and walked just two ‘Bows while scattering six hits.

• Martinez started game one and went the distance in the 4-2 win. She fanned eight and did not walk a batter.

• She tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in Saturday’s 9-8 win, picking up the win as the Titans hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh.

• Making her second start of the series, Martinez threw a one-hit shutout in the 8-0 mercy rule victory. She was one strike away from a no-hitter. She struck out five more UH hitters in the outing.

• Cal State Fullerton second baseman Alexa Neil notched her fourth Big West Softball Freshman of the Week award with an exceptional performance against Hawai‘i from the leadoff spot.

• Neil batted .556 (5-for-9) with at least one run scored and one RBI in all three wins against the Rainbow Wahine.

• She started the series going 3-for-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI in a 4-2 win.

• Played a vital role in CSF’s comeback win, cranking a three-run home run to bring the Titans within 8-6 in an eventual 9-8 triumph.

• Neil finished the series 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in an 8-0 win. She slugged 1.000 for the week.
