• George Willborn III averaged a double-double in an impressive debut for UC Riverside, earning Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades.
• The junior averaged 12.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game as the Highlanders clobbered Nebraska by 19 points on the road and outlasted Idaho at home.
• A 6-foot-3 guard, Willborn III was stellar in the season opener as UCR knocked off the Big 10 Conference’s Nebraska by a 66-49 score. He tallied 13 points, 18 rebounds, two assists and three steals to help the Highlanders record the program’s largest margin of victory in a season opener against a D-1 opponents, and hand the Huskers its first home opening loss since 1980.
• Fourteen of his 18 rebounds against Nebraska came on the defensive end, tying a program record.
• Willborn III contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to help UCR knock off Idaho, 58-51, on Saturday.
• His five steals on the week bolstered a defensive effort that saw UCR hold Nebraska to 29.1% and Idaho to 36.7% shooting.
• He shot 45.5% (10-of-22) from the field for the week.
• UCR is 2-0 to start a season for the first time in the program’s Division I history.
